Israeli Rabbi calls Knesset to hold session on the starving children in Developing countries

For Immediate Release: Feb. 20, 2007

During the weekend the outgoing head of the UN’s World Food Programme, James Morris, stated that more then 18 thousand children die every day as a result of malnutrition and hunger.

Upon hearing these figures Rabbi Yisrael Lau, former Chief Rabbi of Israel, turned to Ms. Dalia Itzik, Speaker of the Knesset, with a request to hold a special session on this topic.

“As a child survivor of the Holocaust I know what hunger causes and I have seen thousands die as a result of malnutrition. I feel that the people of Israel have to be more sensitive than other nations by offering assistance and solutions to aid all those in need” stated Rabbi Lau.
