Israel launches humanitarian mission in Vietnam
May 20, 2007
This week an international medical delegation of 54 people including Israeli doctors and nurses, and headed by Israeli Dr. Rafi Kot, traveled to remote areas in Vietnam to provide medical treatment to the local population.
The group of doctors and nurses left for the mountainous jungles located near the Laos border. The Israeli group had signs indicating that the mission was an "Israel-Vietnam humanitarian mission".
A medical camp was set up and began treating 2,500 people, many of them living without proper medical treatment. The team also distributed food, clothing and toys.
Israel’s ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Efi Ben Matityahu, covered the cost of $50,000 from the Embassy's budget. "The mission is receiving great media exposure, which brings much pride to the State of Israel." said Ambassador Ben Matityahu.
