Israeli teens to teach Indian youth about health issues
New Delhi, 9th August 2007: The 5th Israeli Medical Cadets Programme on Health & First Aid in India is taking place this week 13th – 24th August 2007, where 21 students and teachers from schools in New Delhi will participate in Emergency and First Aid training.
The instructors, as in previous years, will be a group of 16 teenagers from Israel, who routinely volunteer as paramedics in Israeli hospitals and were selected to teach their Indian counterparts following a rigorous screening process. Over the last few years, the Israeli Medical Cadets have trained students in schools in Delhi, Pune (Maharashtra) and Chandigarh, Punjab.
In Israel, the Medical Cadets Association (‘Pirhey Refua’ in Hebrew) is organized by the Ministries of Health and Education as a national project. It aims to promote life-saving skills and to empower young people to make a vital contribution to their society.
The project in India will advance these goals amongst Indian youth, as well as bringing teenagers from both countries together and enhancing direct people-to-people contacts. The program is organized by Ritinjali (an NGO), and the India Trust, in collaboration with by the Embassy of Israel, New Delhi.
The teenagers from Israel will train their Indian counterparts in emergency treatments like first aid, resuscitation, injuries associated with climate conditions, head injuries, chest injuries, fractures and injuries from animals, shock, bleeding and different fields of medicine and science for application in their daily lives.
