The Israeli non government organization, The Negev Institute for Strategies of Peace and Development (NISPED), a member of IsraAID, is implementing a reconstruction program that promotes long term sustainable human development in the earthquake damaged Sichuan province in China.
The NISPED/IsraAID program will enable the Chinese cooperatives that were damaged by the earthquake to rebuild and strengthen their economic and social effectiveness through a wide-ranging and multi-faceted series of training programs both in China as well as in Israel.
The programs are designed to upgrade cooperative leaders, cooperative economic managers as well as those officials charged with the promotion of cooperatives. The programs will also facilitate the reconstruction of the physical and economic infrastructures of supply and marketing cooperatives and enable upgrading of agricultural enterprises in the damaged region.
The local partner in China is the preeminent organization called "All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives (ACFSMC)", which numbers over 180 million members and is one of the major organizations in the economy of China in general and Sichuan in particular.
During the 17th the Communist Party of China conference, which was held recently, it was decided to make rural development the centerpiece of the Chinese government's actions in the coming years. The President of ACFSMC who is also a senior Government Minister and member of the most important political institutions in China supports this action.
The NISPED/IsraAID project has received the endorsement of Israel's Foreign Aid Arm, MASHAV and is financially supported by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and additional private donors.
